WORTHINGTON — The King Turkey Day Board is looking for talented artists and good cooks.
In preparation for the annual King Turkey Day celebration in September, details about two special projects have been announced. The board is sponsoring a contest to find an appropriate button design and is also working on a new edition of the King Turkey Day cookbook.
“As a board, we decided we’d open the button design up to any aspiring artist, anybody in the community who would be interested in submitting a design,” said KTD Board member Brian Almberg.
The design should be in keeping with the 2010 theme, “Our Paycheck Remains Strong.”
“For instance, they could draw a turkey flexing its muscles,” said Almberg as a possibility for the artwork. “At least that’s what I think of first of all. But we know we’ve got a lot of creative people out there and are interested to see what they’ll come up with.”
There is no monetary prize for winning the contest, although the artist whose drawing is selected will receive five buttons and coupon books.
“It’s more of a prestige thing,” Almberg said. “We just want to get everybody involved and give some new people a chance at getting their artwork out there.”
Any type of media can be utilized, although the work must be original.
The artwork must be submitted in at least an 8- by 10-inch format. All submissions become the property of King Turkey Day Inc. and will not be returned to the artists. Designs that are not used may be kept for consideration in future years. Copies may be initially submitted, although the original of the winning design will be framed and auctioned off as a fundraiser for KTD.
Entries must be received by May 1 at the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce office, 1121 Third Ave., Worthington 56187.
Recipes for the upcoming “King Turkey Day Cookbook Volume II” can also be brought or mailed to the chamber office.
Favorite recipes are sought for the following categories: On the Grill; Appetizers & Beverages; Brunches, Main Dishes and Casseroles; Cakes, Cookies & Candies; Soups, Salads and Vegetables; Pies, Pastries & Desserts; and of course, Turkey.
“We want to get as many recipes as we can, making it a successful and fun cookbook,” said KTD board and cookbook committee member Diane Remakel.
People who contributed to the original KTD cookbook are asked not to submit the same recipes for Volume II. The second volume will be all new material.
The deadline for submitting recipes is May 15. Include your name and address with the recipes.
