PIPESTONE — The Pipestone Area boys’ track team won seven events at its own, eleven-team invitational on Saturday, while the Luverne girls took home eight first-place finishes of its own.
Girls
Two of the state’s best hurdlers — Pipestone Area’s Bree Woelber and Luverne’s Katlyn Sawtelle — traded places in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, setting the tone for a competitive day between the two schools.
Sawtelle (15.40 seconds) edged Woelber (15.45) in the 100 hurdles, before Woelber (46.11) got Sawtelle (47.96) back in the 300 hurdles.
Woelber leapt 18 feet and one inch in the long jump to claim that title, as well.
PA also won the 4x100 relay, with Alyssa Petterson, Meg Viland, Tess Cooper and Courtnie Evans teaming up for a 54.09, just ahead of Luverne’s 55.62.
Luverne won plenty of its own events, though.
Alyssa Stegenga paced the 200 with a 28.56, and Liberty Robinson took the 400 in 1:03.25.
Anna Tofteland ran a 2:33.61 to win the 800 after teaming up with Kaitlin Wohnoutka, Melanie Van Meeteren and McKayla Schilling to win the 4x800 relay (10:25.60) earlier in the day.
Luverne also finished first in the 4x200 relay with a 1:48.09 (Stegenga, Robinson, Britton Dyer, Katlyn Sawtelle).

Callan Sawtelle won both the shot put (38-3) and the discus (121-9).
Murray County Central’s Colleen Everson was tops in the 100 (13.66) and the triple jump (34-1).
Everson also stretched out to beat Luverne by two-tenths of a second for the Class A 4x400 title.
Everson teamed up with Crystal Van Iperen, Hannah Schmidt and Sierra Van Iperen to clock a 4:24.64 in that event.
Southwest Christian shined in Class B, with Megan Walhof (100, 200), Hannah Van Dyke (400), Megan De Ruyter (13:10.79), Kaci Mouw (shot, discus), Kayla Broekhuis (high jump), the 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams each winning titles.
For H-BC/Ellsworth, the 4x100 team of Santana Wysong, Paige Leuthold, Natalie Leuthold and Megan Timmer combined for a 54.95 — tops in Class B.
Whitney Wilgenburg’s 5:37.75, Class B win in the mile was another highlight for H-BC/Ellsworth, as was Paige Leuthold’s Class B-winning triple jump of 30-2.
Boys
PA won three of the four relays, taking the 4x100 in 46.97 (Josh Groeneweg, Michael Merrill, Tyler Evans, Colin Cooper), the 4x200 in 1:36.60 (Merrill, Casey Kooiker, Evans, Cooper) and the 4x400 in 3:45.97 (Kooiker, Shandon Jones, Gathin Veldhuizen, Evans).
