COSMOS — Two people have died and one was seriously injured in a fiery three-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Minnesota 7 in Meeker County.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office said a semi truck, owned by Conway Freight and pulling dual trailers, apparently lost control and left the road, sending a second semi into the ditch on opposite sides of the road.
As the second semi, belonging to Moon Creek Ranch, was carried toward the ditch, it struck a passenger car with two occupants, sweeping the car into the ditch as well. The Moon Creek Ranch semi tractor then caught fire, causing extensive damage.
The sheriff’s department said the driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car also died at the scene, and the driver was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Their names are being withheld until relatives can be notified.
The driver of the other semi was not injured, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash was reported at 7:22 a.m. Thursday. The highway was closed until early afternoon while rescue, fire and law enforcement crews were on the scene.
