On behalf of the Lake Okabena Improvement Association (LOIA), I would like to extend our thanks to those who have continued to support our efforts on the annual cleanup event. Without the help of the students of Brad Grimmius’ high school class, the Collaborative, area church youths and their families, boy scouts, girl scouts, the city of Worthington and LOIA membership we wouldn’t have been able to complete the project in a timely and fun manner as we were able.
Hy-Vee, W-2 Meats and additional financial support from the Worthington Area Foundation and Thrivent of Worthington was also greatly appreciated and assisted in the best possible event. We successfully cleaned more than 1,500 pounds of garbage and roughly an additional 1,500 pounds of wood and debris.
With each year’s event a steady decrease of materials and garbage have been recovered thanks in part to the annual event, as well as increased garbage cans and increased awareness of the ongoing efforts by our community.
