WORTHINGTON — During a hospital-wide tea celebrating Nurses Week on May 6, Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington announced the winners of the 2010 Fish Philosophy and Nursing Excellence awards.

The Nursing Excellence Award was presented to Gwen Post. A registered nurse, Post began working on the medical/surgical floor in December 1989. She also worked in obstetrics/gynecology and behavioral health.

In November 2005, Post became an administrative supervisor, and in February 2009, she was appointed nurse manger for critical care services, providing nursing leadership for the emergency department, intensive care unit and cardiac rehabilitation. She currently maintains that role.

The criteria for the Nursing Excellence Award were: clinical excellence, role modeling and mentoring, teamwork and collaborative practice, teaching and listening and kindness and caring.

Registered nurse Caren Voss received the Fish Philosophy Award, which is presented annually to the nurse who: chooses to make today a great day; finds appropriate ways to play while doing a “seriously good job of patient care”; stays focused and is there when needed by patients, family and team members; and strives to “make the day” for others.

Voss has been employed on the medical/surgical floor since July 1979.
