WORTHINGTON — The Worthington City Council is considering the use of a special service charge in lieu of property taxes to finance the operation of the city’s street lighting system. If implemented, the special service charge would be included in the monthly utility bill received from Worthington Public Utilities. In general, those being billed for storm water will also be billed the street lighting special service charge.
The proposal currently being considered will result in the following monthly charges being billed starting in October: residential, $4.35 per dwelling unit; multi-family (four dwelling units or more, including apartments and condominiums), $13.05 per structure; commercial, $13.05 per site; industrial, $13.05 per site; and institutional, $13.05 per site.
Open spaces and vacant properties will not be billed the special service charge.
The council will have a public meeting to receive comments on the proposed street lighting special service charge at 6 p.m. on June 28 in the council chambers at City Hall, 303 Ninth St.
