Slayton shop caters to local ‘Divas’

SLAYTON — Local divas can pick up all their necessities in one place at the One Stop Diva Shop, a new women’s fashion shop in downtown Slayton.

SLAYTON — Local divas can pick up all their necessities in one place at the One Stop Diva Shop, a new women’s fashion shop in downtown Slayton.

“We were aiming for a store where someone could come in and literally get everything that they needed in one stop,” said owner Shari Solma.

It was a whirlwind business venture for Solma, a Pipestone native who now lives in Ghent.

“I was originally doing purse and jewelry parties at craft shows and going to people’s homes, and I just knew that someday I wanted to be able to open my own store,” she recalled. “I saw the building for rent and made some calls, and literally a month later I was opening my doors.”

She opened the store May 18, alongside manager Emily Schoephoerster.

The store offers purses, jewelry, women’s clothing in standard and plus sizes, Arbonne skin care products and other accessories.

“Just this week we’ve been adding shoes,” Solma added.

One of her most popular items has been yarn necklaces made by two girls from Granite Falls, who use the money they earn for their school activities.

“They’re made from yarn, but you’d never know it. It looks like they’re made with beads or something. They’ve been a pretty big hit,” she said. “In the first three weeks, we’ve sold over 100 of them.”

Solma handpicks all the items she sells, whether purchased online or through catalogues.

She also offers a “Diva Night,” a chance for small groups of women to reserve the store for themselves and receive a discount on their purchases.

“We help them shop and pick out colors; we do makeovers with the Arbonne products,” Solma explained.

She hopes to eventually expand her business beyond its current site.

“I kind of listen to the patrons and what they’re looking for here in town,” she said. “... I’ll see how this one goes, and maybe someday I’ll be a chain.”

The One Stop Diva Shop is located at 2610 Broadway Ave., Slayton; Phone (507) 393-1009. The store is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Visit www.onestopdivashop.net for more information.
