Letter: State would have poor future under Emmer

In the past eight years we have seen higher education tuition jump, our property taxes soar, potholes multiply and our public schools decline under Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who has had both eyes focused on personal political ambition.

That’s not the worst of it.

Over the past eight years, under the Republicans, Minnesota has lost thousands of jobs. The Republicans’ answer to that is Tom Emmer.

As governor, Tom Emmer’s first move would be to get rid of thousands of jobs by slashing the state work force. Emmer has not produced a job plan because his plan is to eliminate jobs in education and human services.

On Sept. 26, 2009, Tom Emmer told the Marshall newspaper, “I don’t think you can call yourself a freedom-loving American and be a Democrat.” As far as I am concerned, Tom Emmer has no idea about life or Democrats. We finally passed real health care insurance reform legislation that would benefit thousands of Minnesota families. Rep. Emmer authored a bill in the State House of Representatives that would allow Minnesota to nullify federal laws and effectively eliminate the benefits of health care reform for Minnesotans. That’s a bleak future indeed.

We need to work to defeat Rep. Tom Emmer.

The far-right position on health care is just one of the ways Tom Emmer is shown to be too extreme for Minnesota. Emmer is the Tea Party’s chosen candidate, having been endorsed by the Tea Party leader, Sarah Palin. He does not stand with Minnesotans.

As governor of Minnesota, Emmer would only continue to embrace his far-right wing ideology. We are just getting rid of a governor that doesn’t want our children to have an education, doesn’t want jobs for most of our workforce but does want the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

Help me and yourself to get your children an education and yourself jobs. When going to the polls, don’t vote for Tom Emmer.
