Flag retirement

Boy Scout Troops 121 and 134 gathered Monday — Flag Day — at Worthington’s Centennial Park for a flag retirement ceremony coordinated by the scouts, the Elks Lodge and American Legion. The U.S. Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Here, Alex Baustian (from left), Ernst Coriolon and Sam Burns are shown retiring a flag.
