Jaycox earns AFA scholarship
WORTHINGTON — Agriculture Future of America (AFA) and the Agribusiness Committee of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce have awarded Allison Jaycox, daughter of Chad and Kristin Jaycox, a $3,200 scholarship to attend Iowa State University. AFA scholarships are presented to high school graduates entering college with intentions to major in agricultural degree programs.
Jaycox, a recent graduate of Worthington High School, plans to study biology in the Agricultural and Life Science College at Iowa State University in hopes of becoming a veterinarian.
AFA partners with businesses and individual donors to provide scholarship and intern opportunities to students pursuing careers in an agriculture-related industry.
Area boy accepted to air academy
AUSTIN —Justin Hansen, Ellis Middle School, Austin, has been accepted to the Experimental Aircraft Association Inc. Basic Air Academy 2010, in Oshkosh, Wis.
Hansen is the son of Becky Hansen and Tim Hansen, formerly of Brewster; the grandson of Richard and Shirley Hansen, formerly of Brewster; and the greatnephew of Michael and Dixie Hansen, Worthington.
The EAA Air Academy offers young people the opportunity to meet and work with aviation professionals, while living and learning the arts, sciences, and lore of aviation in classroom and workshop settings. Hansen is being sponsored by Austin’s local EAA Chapter 386.
DMU hosts grad school event
DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines University will host Discover DMU Day from 2 to 5 p.m. June 30.
DMU, a medical and health sciences university offering nine graduate degrees, will open its doors for undergraduate students and advisers to explore the school.
Visitors can check out aspects of the school that interest them, meet faculty and attend a health professions fair.
