FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — Someone wanted to be rid of Star, a German shepherd mix who was left for dead with a slit throat in Otter Tail County.

But Star survived her injuries for several days before she was found and brought to a veterinarian. Now she’s on the mend and apparently will survive.

County humane society manager Ericka Stoltenberg called Star’s survival amazing given how long she went without care.

The dog has a surgery scheduled today to more securely close her wound, and is headed for a foster home afterward. Stoltenberg said that despite her injuries, Star remains “the most loving animal” and just wants to be with people and other dogs.
