Fatal accident occurs in Jackson

JACKSON — An accident late Wednesday morning at the Interstate 90 and U.S. 71 junction claimed the life of a Trimont man.

The accident occurred at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Duane R. Clemmensen, 63, of Trimont, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee on U.S. 71. His vehicle struck the rear axle of a second vehicle’s trailer as it turned onto Interstate 90 on the eastbound onramp.

The accident report indicates Clemmensen was pronounced dead at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center.

A passenger in the Jeep, Michael E. Matkin, 50, of Winchester, Kan., had no apparent injury.

The Jeep Cherokee was a total loss. The 2008 Kaly trailer sustained moderate damage.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department assisted at the scene.
