ADRIAN — The city of Adrian will be a zoo for its annual Christmas in July festival Saturday, complete with animals, a special farmers market, kids’ games and a parade.
“It’s a fun-filled afternoon for kids and adults alike, and I think (prices) are reasonable,” said Rita Boltjes, president of Adrian’s Town and Country Association.
For the first time, Christmas in July will feature the Sanford/Great Plains Zoo Express from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the St. Adrian Church Grounds. The educational presentation brings zoo animals to the public in an interactive show.
From 6:30 a.m. to noon, a Farmers Market will be at the Mini Mart Parking Lot.
Registration for the Run/Walk event will begin at 8:15 a.m. in Lower Park, with the race set to start at 9 a.m.
The annual disc golf tournament at the campground will begin with a 9:30 a.m. meeting at the first hole and a 10 a.m. tee-off.
From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., pork burgers, hot dogs, chips, baked beans, nachos, desserts and pop will be served at the fire hall.
From 1 to 4 p.m., inflatables, train rides and games for children will be at the St. Adrian Church Grounds, operated by the Adrian American Legion.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the Duck Race Raffle at the Fire Hall, a Kiddie Tractor Pull at the Adrian State Bank parking lot, and the Ms. Adrian Drag Queen Contest at Maine Avenue Parking Lot.
Already, at least 10 area men have signed up to vie for the title of Ms. Adrian Drag Queen, and more contestants may join the show.
