Multi-county forger sentenced

WORTHINGTON — A man who allegedly owes thousands of dollars in court fees and restitution in counties across southern Minnesota will spend the next several months in prison after allegedly stealing checks and deposit slips to withdraw money from strangers’ bank accounts.

WORTHINGTON — A man who allegedly owes thousands of dollars in court fees and restitution in counties across southern Minnesota will spend the next several months in prison after allegedly stealing checks and deposit slips to withdraw money from strangers’ bank accounts.

Larry Mark Senne, 42, of Mankato, was sentenced Tuesday in Nobles County District Court for check forgery-intent to defraud. He had worked out a plea agreement with the state that earned him a 17 month sentence, two-thirds of which will be spent in prison. He will receive credit for 97 days served in the Nobles County Jail.

Nobles County Assistant Attorney Kathy Kusz said the plea agreement offered the benefit of not having witnesses from other parts of the state driving to Worthington for a trial.

Senne’s stolen check scam involved victims from Haywood and Medford, and at the time of his arrest, he was a guest of the Olmsted County Jail. Blue Earth County had a warrant out for his arrest.

In southwest Minnesota, Senne allegedly committed forgery and fraud in Nobles, Rock, Cottonwood and Pipestone Counties. Senne would use a stolen check from one bank account and note it on a stolen deposit slip from a local account. Then he went to local banks to deposit the checks, asking for some of the cash back — usually $200 at a time.

At the time of his arrest in Olmsted County and subsequent transfer to Nobles County in April, he was on parole in Blue Earth County, which stemmed from a forgery conviction there. Since 1997, Senne has been charged with check forgery or counterfeit check possession 13 times in 11 counties.
