Tornado watch canceled

3:50 p.m. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The tornado watch for Cottonwood, Jackson, and Dickinson counties has been canceled.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The tornado watch for Cottonwood, Jackson, and Dickinson counties has been canceled.

1:54 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch to expire at 8 p.m. tonight for Dickinson County, Iowa, and Cottonwood and Jackson counties in Minnesota.

1:45 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Dickinson County, Iowa, and Jackson County, Minnesota, to expire at 2:15 p.m. today.

At 1:39 p.m., the National Weather Service was tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds of excess of 60 miles per hour. This storm was located near Wahpeton, or 7 miles west of Spirit Lake, and moving northeast at 45 miles per hour.

The severe thunderstorm will be near Orleans around 1:45 p.m. and Jackson and Lakefield around 2 p.m. Alpha will also be impacted by this severe thunderstorm.

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in excess of 60 miles per hour, destructive hail, deadly lightning and very heavy rain. The National Weather Service advised people in these areas to move to an interior room or the lowest floor of a building. Heavy rains flood roads quickly, so people should be careful to avoid driving into areas where water covers the road.
