WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area YMCA has begun its 2010 Strong Kids Campaign.

Each year, the YMCA reaches out to the community to ask for support for its Strong Kids Sustaining Campaign.

There has been an increased need for financial assistance for families wishing to participate in programs and membership. By April, the Y granted more financial assistance to youths and families from the area than all of 2009.

As in the past, donors will have the opportunity to be recognized in “giving levels.” All donors in club levels will be recognized publicly after the campaign is completed.

This year’s campaign is already under way, with 30 percent of the total goal of $42,000 already raised.

“This year’s campaign is very crucial to the YMCA. This campaign has the ability to grow and prosper; we just need to get the word out to more people,” said YMCA Executive Director Andy Johnson.

“Our goal is to get into the campaign and be done as soon as possible,” added YMCA Board President Jodi Landgaard. “We are also committed to avoiding the United Way campaign that will begin in September. This campaign is crucial to the community and we are so grateful for our community’s support.”
