WINDOM — Cottonwood County Fair Days begins today with the first slew of 4-H shows and a demolition derby in the evening.

Crystal Reith, the county’s 4-H program coordinator, said this year’s event is drawing more 4-H participation than usual.

“We have outstanding numbers pre-registered, so we’re looking forward to a successful fair,” she said.

As always, the 4-H food stand will be open all five days, beginning at 10 a.m. today and at 7:30 a.m. beginning Thursday.

New this year is escape artist Mario Manzini and the first-ever Phat Pheasant Beer Garden, set for Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Other ongoing events include demonstrations by Cosmo Kid, the New Jersey-based spray paint artist who is returning to the fair for the third time; and chainsaw artist Chet Jr., who will exhibit his skills Thursday through Sunday.
