COTTAGE GROVE - A Cottage Grove couple faces drug charges after police found they were allegedly carrying methamphetamine in their underwear.

Amber L. Reyes, 27, of Cottage Grove allegedly had 5.15 grams of methamphetamine in her bra and Ryan B. Nilo, 27, also of Cottage Grove, allegedly had 11.03 grams of the drug in his underwear, according to the Washington County District Court Complaint.

Officers stopped the car Nilo was driving near 70th Street and Highway 61 June 29 because they knew Nilo had a suspended Minnesota driver’s license, the complaint says. Reyes was a passenger in the car at the time, according to the complaint. Officers found a digital scale in Nilo’s pocket and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle, the complaint says. Police then took them to the Cottage Grove Police Department, searched them and discovered the methamphetamine.

Reyes is charged with one count of third-degree drug possession, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for a first controlled substance conviction.

Nilo is charged with one count of first-degree drug sale, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and $1 million in fines for a first drug conviction and one count of second-degree drug possession, which has a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and $500,000 in fines for a first conviction.

Nilo made his initial appearance in court on Sept. 15, and a jury trial is scheduled in January of 2011. Reyes is scheduled to make her initial appearance in court on Oct. 6.
