Man injured when vehicle hit by 2 train engines

DICKINSON, N.D. - A Gladstone man was injured Thursday evening when a train struck the road grader he backed onto the tracks south of Ray in Williams County, according to a North Dakota Highway Patrol news release issued this morning.

Monte Martin, 58, backed onto the tracks at about 7:15 p.m. as he was grading 117th Avenue when a BNSF train lead engine heading east struck the rear of Martin’s vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.

Martin’s grader spun and was hit by a second engine and the train soon came to a stop.

Martin was injured and taken to Tioga Medical Center. He was no longer there Friday morning, center staff said.

The grader had $10,000 in damage, according to the release. The train had $25,000 in damage.

The Highway Patrol and Williams County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident.
