PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds has commended two summer interns with the S.D. Department of Game, Fish and Parks for rescuing an 83-year-old woman whose car was on fire near Bristol.

Letters of commendation were sent to Trevor Barthel of Watertown, S.D., and Nick Markl of Windom.

The two followed smoke from a fire and found a woman disoriented and dangerously close to a burning vehicle in a cornfield in late August. They pulled her to safety and called authorities, then used an ATV to transport her to a main road to meet an ambulance.

The woman was not seriously injured.
