Obituary: Kevin Benson

Kevin L. Benson, age 60, of Luverne, died Friday, September 17, 2010, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne.

Kevin L. Benson, age 60, of Luverne, died Friday, September 17, 2010, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne.

He was born March 21, 1950, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Otis and Gertrude (Bergin) Benson. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1968; and attended Pipestone Vocational School.

Kevin married RaVae Oye on November 13, 1976, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. After their marriage, the couple lived east of Jasper, where they engaged in farming & dairy cattle. He also worked at Smith Texaco. In 1983, the couple moved to Luverne. Kevin worked at IBP and later at Rupp Construction in Slayton. In 1992, Kevin began working at the Luverne Building Center. Most recently, he worked at Schuur Concrete in Luverne.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick; the Jasper Saddle Club; charter member of the Jasper Goat Racing Club; and was an Assistant Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts. Kevin enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, water skiing, attending horse shows and being with his dogs. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings & Twins.

Kevin is survived by his wife, RaVae Benson, Luverne; son, Cody Benson, Luverne; mother, Gertrude Benson, Jasper; three brothers, Kent Benson, Pipestone; Kord Benson, O’Neil, NE; and Kolin Benson, Tuscan, AZ; and four sisters, Kristin (Tom) Nelson, Broomfield, CO; Kyle Bahn, Austin, TX; Kelly (Tom Heiling) Benson, Morton; and Kerri (Malcolm) Johnston, Elk Point, SD.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Kim Benson; and an infant sister, Kolleen Benson.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, in Hardwick, officiated by Rev. Mark Mumme.

A tree will be planted in memory of Kevin Benson, by Sanford Luverne Hospice.
