ROCHESTER, Minn. — Skateboarders say they were stunned when a young male pulled out a gun at a park in Rochester and started shooting.

Some ran for cover as the youth fired gunshots into a tree, then turned the gun on himself Monday afternoon.

Several skateboarders who witnessed the shooting say they feared the youth would start shooting bystanders.

The Post-Bulletin says 16-year-old Jake Rogers, a junior at John Marshall High School, said the youth shot the tree about eight times before he shot and killed himself.
