Update: Flood warnings continue for Jackson, Windom

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Flood warnings remain in effect for the Des Moines River in Jackson and Windom, the National Weather Service stated.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Flood warnings remain in effect for the Des Moines River in Jackson and Windom, the National Weather Service stated.

The following river forecasts include predicted precipitation through this afternoon, but any additional future rain could affect the crest forecasts.

Des Moines River near Windom: At 8 p.m. Monday, the stage was 21.9 feet, and flood stage is 19.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue to slowly fall. At stages near 21.0 feet, Island Park in Windom begins to flood, along with some agricultural land outside the city.

Des Moines River at Jackson: The flood warning has been extended until 4 p.m. Monday. At 8 p.m. yesterday, the stage was 15.1 feet. Flood stage is considered to be 12.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue to slowly fall. At stages near 14.0 feet, flooding begins to affect homes and businesses along the non-leveed portions of the river in Jackson.

10:55 a.m. Monday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The National Weather Service has updated its flood warnings, and the following warnings are still active:

  • Des Moines River, near Windom

  • Des Moines River, at Jackson

  • Redwood River at Russell

  • Little Sioux River, near Milford, Iowa

  • Little Sioux River, at Spencer, Iowa

  • Rock River, at Rock Rapids, Iowa

Des Moines River near Windom: At 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 21.7 feet. Flood stage is 19.0 feet. The river crested at 23.0 feet Friday, and will continue to slowly fall. At stages near 21.0 feet, Island Park floods, along with some agricultural land outside Windom.

Des Moines River at Jackson: At 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 15.2 feet. Flood stage is 12.0 feet. The river crested at 16.83 feet on Saturday, and will continue to slowly fall. At stages near 14.0 feet, flooding begins to affect homes and businesses along the non-leveed portions of the river.

Redwood River at Russell: At 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 16.2 feet, and flood stage is 14.0 feet. The river crested at 20.01 feet Saturday and is expected to continue to slowly fall. At stages near 14.0 feet, the right bank overflows, flooding some low-lying areas.

Little Sioux River near Milford: At 7 a.m. Monday, the stage was 15.8 feet. Flood stage is 12.0 feet. At stages near 16.0 feet, 170th Avenue from Highway 9 to 140th Street is flooded.

Little Sioux River at Spencer: At 10 a.m. Monday, the stage was 11.7 feet. Flood stage is 10.0 feet. The river is expected to continue to fall to a stage of 11.5 feet by 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Rock River at Rock Rapids, Iowa: At 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 14.5 feet. Flood stage is 13.0 feet. The river crested at 22.25 feet on Sunday, and will continue to fall to below flood stage by Tuesday. At stages near 13.0 feet, the lower banks on the left side of the river will begin flooding.

9:10 a.m. Monday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the following rivers:

  • DES MOINES RIVER NEAR WINDOM

  • DES MOINES RIVER AT JACKSON

  • REDWOOD RIVER AT RUSSELL

  • ROCK RIVER AT ROCK RAPIDS

  • OCHEYEDAN RIVER NEAR SPENCER

  • LITTLE SIOUX RIVER AT SPENCER

Des Moines River near Windom: At 8 p.m. Sunday the stage was 21.4 feet. Flood stage is 19.0 feet. The river was forecast to continue to fall below flood stage last night. At stages near 19.0 feet, minor lowland flooding begins along the lower east bank.

Des Moines River at Jackson: At 8 p.m. Sunday the stage was 15.5 feet. Flood stage is 12.0 feet. The river will continue to fall below flood stage by Oct. 3. At stages near 14.0 feet, flooding begins to affect homes and businesses along the non-leveed portions of the river in Jackson.

Redwood River at Russell: At 7 p.m. Sunday the stage was 16.9 feet and flood stage is considered to be 14.0 feet. The river is expected to continue to fall.

Rock River at Rock Rapids: At 8 p.m. Sunday the stage was 15.8 feet. Flood stage is 13.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue to fall below flood stage by Tuesday. At stages near 16.0 feet, the higher banks on the left side of the river, and the lower banks on the right side, will begin flooding.

Ocheyedan River near Spencer: At 7 p.m. Sunday the stage was 8.5 feet, and flood stage is 8.0 feet. The river was expected to continue rising to near 8.8 feet Sunday. Additional rises are still possible, however. At stages near 9.5 feet, significant amounts of pasture and other farmland begin to flood.

Little Sioux River at Spencer: Flood stage is 10.0 feet. At stages near 10.0 feet, the right bank overflows and minor flooding of the Spencer City Park and some rural agricultural areas begins.
