HILLS — Students at Hills-Beaver Creek High School were evacuated Wednesday following a bomb threat.

The note containing the threat was similar to the note that forced evacuation of Luverne Public School on Friday, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

“There is a bomb going off at 12:30 today,” the note read.

The H-BC personnel activated an evacuation plan, and students were instructed and led by teachers to the American Legion in Hills.

The sheriff’s office also asked the Luverne district to enter into a modified lockdown from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Classes continued as usual, but no one was allowed to leave the building. Students were allowed to leave if their parents met them at the school’s entrance.

“There was no immediate danger; it was kind of a precautionary thing for safety of our students,” said Luverne Superintendent Gary Fisher.

Sanford Hospital Luverne was also notified of the situation.

Once the students were inside the Legion building in Hills, it was decided school would not continue for the day. Parents were contacted by staff with directions on how and where to pick up their child.

The Hills Fire Department assisted the Rock County Sheriff’s Office with setting up a perimeter and securing the scene. Members of the sheriff’s office and the school staff did an initial walk-through of the school to verify no one was in the building. At noon, all parties searching in the school were ordered to evacuate until 1 p.m.

After another walk-though at 1 p.m., the school was turned over to the Hills High School superintendent.

Currently, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office has no suspect, and the case is still under investigation.
