LAKEFIELD — “The Accidental Hero,” a one-man play about the World War II experiences of Colonel Matt Konop, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Jackson County Central Middle School Auditorium in Lakefield.

The show tells the story of a Midwestern farm boy who liberated the towns in Czechoslovakia where his grandparents lived.

Performed by Patrick Dewane, Konop’s grandson, the show is based on Konop’s typewritten memoirs, discovered after his death.

The free show is sponsored by the Jackson County Library and JCC Community Education and was made possible by a partnership between Minnesota Regional Public Libraries and the Minnesota Historical Society, with funding provided by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
