MARSHALL — The 19th annual Conference for Young Artists will be 8 a.m. Jan. 6, 2011 at Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall.

Young artist event approaches

MARSHALL — The 19th annual Conference for Young Artists will be 8 a.m. Jan. 6, 2011 at Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall.

The conference is for students in grades 3-8.

The event celebrates writing and features three hands-on sessions that introduce students to authors, illustrators and other types of communicators. John Coy, author of picture books and young adult novels, is the keynote speaker.

Students must be preregistered and accompanied by an adult to attend the conference. Early bird registration deadline is Nov. 23; final deadline is Nov. 30.

WHS grad wins office supplies for her students

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — Lakeview Elementary Assistant Principal Holly Ellis, a graduate of Worthington High School, was selected by the Wentzville OfficeMax as the local winner of “A Day Made Better.”

The national event was founded by Office Max and Adopt-A-Classroom to honor more than 1,000 teachers nationwide by donated $1 million worth of supplies to their schools.

Ellis’ school received $1,000 worth of supplies, including a digital camera for classroom use and other student supplies.

Ellis is a graduate of Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Worthington; and Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Mo.

She is the daughter of Mike and Becky Hoeft of Reading.

Area students go ‘Into the Woods’

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Several area students will perform in the Augustana College production of “Into the Woods” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 20 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 at the Edith Mortenson Center Theatre. Tickets are available online at
