NEW ULM — The Worthington high school bowling teams’ best ever season continues to keep getting better.

The Trojans won the district tournament in New Ulm on Saturday, adding the achievement to the Southwest Conference championship they had sealed at the regular season finale on Nov. 6.

With the tournament victory, WHS qualified for the state tournament for the first time ever.

The No. 1 seeded Trojans beat No. 8 Marshall with a 3-0 sweep in the first round of the tournament, setting up a semi-final matchup against No. 4 GFW (Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop).

WHS dropped the first game, but won the next three to advance to the final, where it faced No. 2 New Ulm.

The team again dropped the first game, but won the next three, including posting a season-best score of 266 in the final game, to win the tournament.

“It really came down to the two best teams in the conference, and we came out ahead,” coach Jason Johnson said.

The state tournament will take place on Dec. 4 at Midway Pro Bowl in St. Paul.
