WORTHINGTON — At Prairie Elementary, future leaders are being born. These students are not only excelling in the classroom, but through different activities that give back to the community. These students are Prairie’s K-Kids.

K-Kids are a local Kiwanis Club sponsored program for elementary school students. K-Kids goals are to provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community, to develop leadership potential, to foster development of a strong, moral character, and to encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation. The K-Kids club elects its own officers, holds regular club meetings, establish its own committees, and schedules community service projects.

The different projects include:

* Collect Campbell Soup labels to help support our school.

* Peanut Day (K-Kids collect money donations for Kiwanis throughout our community.)

* Veteran’s Breakfast (K-Kids greet and serve breakfast to our local veterans.)

* Food Drive (They collect food for people in need.)

* Pennies for Patients (A fundraiser to collect money for kids with blood cancers.)

* Park Clean-Up

* Sponsored Open Gym Night for members.

* Plan and organize Spring Fling & Homecoming Week at Prairie.

* Serve as Ambassadors (Show and teach new students about Prairie.)

This year, Prairie has more than 75 students actively involved in the K-Kids program. These students are not only making a difference at Prairie Elementary, but are also contributing to the community.

Zach Dingmann and Stephanie Fletcher are fourth-grade teachers and K-Kids Advisors at Prairie Elementary.
