CLOQUET — The Minnesota West men’s basketball team’s defense did its job against Fond du Lac on Friday night.
The Bluejays just needed to put enough points on the board to win.
MW’s offense kicked into gear in the second half after a 24-22 half-time deficit, leading to a 64-54 win on the road.
The Bluejays were led by 14-point performances by Halden Van Wyhe and Deng Ring. Ring also added eight rebounds.
Up by 12 with two minutes to go, the Bluejays made sure the game finished in their favor with strong defense all the way to the finish line.
“It was a real defensive battle,” MW head coach Justin Heckenlaible said. “We had some key stops late in the second half.”
MW also got 12 points from Dontreal McKinley and nine points from Myler Neal.
The Bluejays (7-4) will play today on the road against the Associated Free Lutheran Bible School, weather permitting.
