HOLLAND — Two people died and a third person is listed in critical condition following a head-on crash Tuesday night in Pipestone County. The accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Minnesota 23, south of Holland.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Megan Stensgaard, 22, of Florence, and Curtis B. Maxwell, 60, of Luverne, were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Stensgaard was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, and Maxwell a 2002 Chrysler van.
The initial report indicates that Stensgaard had alcohol detected in her system.
A passenger in the van, Maxwell’s wife, Sandra L. Maxwell, 52, of Luverne, was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., where she was listed in critical condition.
Both vehicles were total losses.
The Holland First Responders, Holland Fire Department, Pipestone Ambulance and Pipestone Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
Funeral arrangements for Curtis Maxwell are pending at Dingmann Funeral Home, Luverne.
