WORTHINGTON — Two Worthington men were arrested Monday for their alleged involvement with a theft in Sheldon, Iowa that will likely result in financial transaction card fraud charges and more.
Jose Antonio Martinez, 19, and Jimmy Lee Castillo, 25, were being held in the Nobles County Jail as of Tuesday morning.
According to information from the Sheldon Police Department, the two men allegedly stole a debit card from a purse inside an unlocked vehicle that had been parked near the Sanford Sheldon Hospital in the afternoon hours of Jan. 7. They allegedly used the debit card at the Splish Splash Auto Bath and the Sheldon Plaza before returning to Worthington, where they used the stolen card to purchase more than $1,000 in merchandise at area businesses.
Martinez and Castillo were arrested by officers from the Worthington and Sheldon Police Departments. The men face charges in both Minnesota and Iowa for the unlawful use of the debit card, along with possible burglary charges in Iowa for the theft of the card.
The Sheldon Police Department is asking for public’s help in identifying the victim of a second vehicle burglary in Sheldon on Jan. 7 that has not yet been reported to authorities. The vehicle was also parked in the vicinity of the Sanford Hospital and had a purse and a radar detector stolen.
