JACKSON — A number of costly falls throughout the day hindered the Worthington gymnastics teams’ efforts at the Jackson County Central Invitational on Saturday, leaving the Trojans with a seventh-place finish in the eight team event.

WHS’ overall team score was 121.875.

“We didn’t do as well as we would have liked,” WHS coach Joni Reitmeier said. “We had an OK meet, but Jackson is traditionally always a tough meet for us.”

Tara Svalland was the Trojans’ top performer, finishing seventh in the all-around category with a score of 33.6

Svalland finished sixth in the floor event with a 9.15, seventh on the vault with an 8.9, and finished 10th on the parallel uneven bars with a 7.9.

Reitmeier said that the number of falls by her team cost around five points from the team’s overall score. Ten of the falls came on the balance beam, but there were also falls by the Trojans in the floor event and on the bars.

WHS has a home meet against St. James on Tuesday.
