WORTHINGTON — According to the latest forecasts, the weather outlook for Saturday includes highs of anywhere from 30 to 39 degrees, depending on which meteorologists is doing the forecasting. Any temperatures in the 30s will make for a pleasant Healthy Heart Family Celebration, especially when it comes to the 2-mile Sweetheart Walk.
Saturday’s third annual Healthy Heart Family Celebration, sponsored by the Worthington Area YMCA, Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Sanford Health, the Daily Globe, US 104 and the Community Blood Bank, includes screenings for cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, oxygen saturation, body mass index and blood pressure.
There will be a healthy eating display with healthy snacks for all participants, and the Community Blood Bank Bloodmobile will be on site taking blood donations.
The screenings begin at 8 a.m. at the YMCA and continue through 11 a.m. A group cycling class begins at 8 a.m. and an aerobics class begins at 10 a.m.
For the 2-mile Sweetheart Walk, participants are asked to check in at least 20 minutes before the 9 a.m. start time.
The walk will start and finish at the YMCA, but for those who wish, an indoor route will be provided.
“The rumor is it will be pretty nice out,” said YMCA Health and Fitness Director Ryan Seykora. “But people can walk indoors if they want.”
For a registration fee, each participant will receive a Sanford bottle of water and a long sleeve t-shirt.
“The shirts are navy blue and have a really nice logo,” Seykora said, then chuckled. “I designed it myself, so I’m a little biased.”
Discount coupons from local merchants will be available throughout the event, and membership specials will be given throughout the day. Daycare will also be available.
“We’re hoping for at least 100 people,” Seykora said. “We’d love to get even more than that.”
Anyone interested in the screenings can call (507) 376-6197 for an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.
