WORTHINGTON — My name is Natalie Mulder. My husband Mike and I have four children. Our oldest son and daughter are in eighth grade and sixth grade at Worthington Christian School. It has been a busy winter season at WCS both in and out of the classroom for students, teachers and parents. After volleyball and soccer this past fall, grades 5-8 began practicing several times a week to prepare for the basketball season.
The girls were led by Miss Annette Bosma, our third- and fourth-grade teacher, and the boys’ coach was Austin Vande Kamp, a sophomore at Minnesota West Community and Technical College and a graduate of WCS. We are thankful for the time and effort they gave to train and assist our students in using some of the talents God has given them.
Parents, family and friends of WCS watched the first basketball game in December and attended the last game of the season on Feb. 22. We played teams from Chandler Christian, Hills Christian, Edgerton Christian, St James Lutheran, Sheldon Christian, Marshall Christian and Sioux Falls Lutheran. We also hosted a tournament Jan. 22 at WCS. It was such a fun, energy-packed day with some exciting basketball games. The girls finished the season with a 9-2 record. The boys had a younger team, but still ended with a 7-3 record.
It was also exciting to watch the players and how they improved with each game. We are extremely proud of each member and hope that they will continue to use the talents God has blessed them with both on and off the court.
As an introduction to the spring track season, fifth- through eighth-graders will participate in the Presidential Fitness Challenge. Once they have completed the program, they will jump right into training for multiple track events. We look forward to watching them compete in several area track meets.
Meanwhile, kindergartners through fourth-graders have the opportunity to enjoy P.E. three times a week. They are part of a well-rounded program including basic skills such as jumping rope and main motor skills. They also participate in a variety of games and sports sessions such as volleyball, gymnastics, dodge ball and basketball.
With the coming of spring, WCS is already preparing for our next school year. On Wednesday, March 16, we will be hosting our annual Kindergarten Round-up. This is a special time dedicated to children who will be attending kindergarten next year, and also their parents. Please contact the school if you would like to attend. We would love the opportunity to tell you more about WCS. The goal of Worthington Christian School is to educate children in the light of God’s Word and to prepare them for a life of service to God, to His creation and to their community.
