WORTHINGTON — Two men were cited for fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct for causing problems at a wedding dance, according to Worthington Public Safety Director Mike Cumiskey.
The men, he said, were unrelated to the wedding party.
The incident report states someone from the Travelodge called authorities shortly before midnight Saturday to report two males arguing.
Within 20 minutes the two men had returned, and Travelodge staff requested authorities escort them from the property.
Less than two minutes later, authorities received a report of approximately eight males fighting outside the hotel.
“When the officers got there, a victim said he was walking outside when a man hit him in the face,” Cumiskey stated.
The man who allegedly hit the victim, Cumiskey said, was 36-year-old Robert Luverne Walter of Chatfield, who was later cited for fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
Another man, John David Brandy, 29, of Rochester, was cited for the same charges for his part in the fight outside the hotel.
The man who was assaulted as he walked out was the father of the groom at a wedding dance taking place at the hotel.
According to his own statement to police, he walked out the door, got punched, then took the man who had hit him down to the ground and held him there.
Another man with the victim was trying to keep everyone back from the scene when Brandy allegedly struck him.
The Worthington Ambulance was dispatched to the scene as a precaution, but both men who had been hit were treated and released without being transported to the hospital, Cumiskey said.
