Letter: Midway Park is used, contrary to two opinions

In regard to the March 30 Daily Globe article on the possibility of selling Midway Park, I have a few comments.

Commissioner Leistico says that there is nothing going on out there. Granted the park is not used for camping or picnics, but there is more activity out there than which the park is being credited. People use the park for fishing in both summer and winter. It is also used for all types of hunting including waterfowl, pheasant, deer, predator and other small game. People also walk and train their dogs there. The park is used for more than one might think.

Commissioner Thier suggests the park is being used for beer parties. As someone who is in the park weekly during the spring and summer months, if there are beer parties happening, I have to really commend those kids on how neat they are as they leave no evidence of their activities. It’s not happening.

If the county insists on selling Midway Park, at least have the wisdom Commissioner Demuth exhibited and sell it to Pheasants Forever or the DNR and get it on the tax rolls and keep it available to the public.
