Nate Johnson of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources was one of six people burning 40 acres of the Oxbow Wildlife Management Area Tuesday between Heron Lake and Brewster.
Weather conditions — no cloud cover, warm temperatures and a low relative humidity — were excellent for controlled burning, Johnson said, though the wind could have been steadier.
The burn will kill off weeds in the area and help native prairie grasses to flourish.
