LUVERNE — Luverne starting pitcher Andrew DeBoer was staked to an early lead and threw seven effective innings against Hadley on Wednesday, leading his team to an 8-1 victory in an amateur baseball matchup.
DeBoer struck out 10 batters, allowed only five hits and walked two. Zach Olson pitched the final two innings.
Luverne (5-2) scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second to take immediate control of the contest. Phil Paquette led the team with a 4-for-4 effort, including a double and an RBI. Zack Clark was 2-for-4 with a double and Brian Beuning was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Eric Wieneke took the loss on the mound for the Buttermakers. He was relieved by Derik Johnson (four innings pitched, four strikeouts) and Alex Van’t Hof.
Zach Bruns was 2-for-4 and accounted for Hadley’s lone run with an RBI-double.
The Buttermakers (2-1) host Wilmont Sunday at 2 p.m.

Fairmont 13, Windom 2
WINDOM — Fairmont broke open a 2-2 game against Windom on Wednesday with five runs in the top of the sixth and added six more in the seventh to turn a close game into a blowout win.
Sean McGuire earned a complete-game victory for Fairmont, allowing six hits, walking two and striking out eight.
Tyler Knutson took the loss for Windom (5 2/3 innings pitched, six runs, two earned runs, four hits, seven walks, five strikeouts), exiting in the sixth after encountering some control problems.
Knutson and Kirby Johnson led the Windom offense by both going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Windom (3-3) hosts Tracy on Sunday.
