FSA to host meeting Tuesday regarding discrimination suit

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Farm Service Agency will host a meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the FSA Conference Room, Worthington, regarding the discrimination settlements offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and FSA arising from the Garcia/Love lawsuits.

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Farm Service Agency will host a meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the FSA Conference Room, Worthington, regarding the discrimination settlements offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and FSA arising from the Garcia/Love lawsuits.

These are cases of discrimination regarding Hispanic and Latino individual farmers who farmed or attempted to farm between Jan. 1, 1981, and Dec. 31, 1996; or between Oct. 13, 1998, and Oct. 13, 2000. The settlement period for women farmer and rancher claims is between Jan. 1, 1981 and Dec. 31, 1996; or between Oct. 19, 1998 and Oct. 19, 2000.

The meeting will only provide potential claimants of where to obtain assistance and information. USDA/FSA will not provide legal advice as to whether the claim is valid.

If an interpreter or special service is required, please notify the FSA office in advance at 376-6194, ext. 109.
