Okabena legion sneaks past Lakefield

HERON LAKE — With its game against Lakefield in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday, the Okabena legion baseball team got creative in its effort to take the lead.

HERON LAKE — With its game against Lakefield in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday, the Okabena legion baseball team got creative in its effort to take the lead.

With Alex Olsem on first and Alex Meyer on third, Okabena successfully executed a double steal to take a 3-2 lead that would hold up as the game’s final score.

Jacob Post (complete game, six hits, one earned run, one walk) took the win on the mound for Okabena, with Lakefield’s Brock Thaemlitz (five innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs, five walks, six strikeouts) receiving the loss.

Nolan Luhmann and Thaemlitz each went 2-for-4 for Lakefield, with Thaemlitz recording an RBI.

Meyer was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI for Okabena, Jake Olsen, Olsem and Aaron Fest were 1-for-2 and Post was 1-for-3 with a double.

Okabena (2-2) will host Edgerton on Tuesday.
