Heritage Days kicks off today

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — With Worthington’s Regatta and Windom’s Riverfest in the rearview mirror, summer festivals are just beginning. Rock Rapids will take its turn this week, with Heritage Days kicking off today with the sidewalk chalk contest drawing, 7 p.m. queen contest and performances by Robin’s School of Dance at the Forster Community Center.
Families can expect to stay busy as there is no shortage on things to do this weekend in Rock Rapids. Here is the rest of the schedule of events.
Thursday
1 p.m. — sidewalk chalk contest judging, downtown
4 to 8 p.m. — street sales, downtown
4:30 to 7 p.m. — Christian Reformed Church Whopper Feed, soccer fields
6 p.m. — kiddie parade, soccer fields
6:30 p.m. — Family Fun Night with speed toss challenge, dunk tank, family races, minnow races, duck pond and other events, Island Park
10 p.m. — fireworks, Borman Forster ballpark
Friday
7 to 9 a.m. — community breakfast featuring Dad’s Belgian Waffles, Forster Community Center
8 a.m. — Vision 2021 Strategic Plan unveiling, Forster Community Center
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — street sales, downtown
11 a.m. to 1 p.m — United Methodist Church salad luncheon & craft sale, Forster Community Center
Noon to 5 p.m. — Depot Museum open
5 p.m. — steak supper, Rapid Speedway
5 to 8 p.m. — mini midway (inflatable, big wheel races, bean bag game, raffle, etc.), Rapid Speedway.
8 p.m. — races, Rapid Speedway
8 p.m. — Cruise Night, downtown
8:30 p.m. — “The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged,” Island Park shelter house
