Okabena Legion sweeps doubleheader in Fulda

FULDA — The Okabena Legion baseball team had a lot of big swings in a doubleheader against Fulda on Friday, but one swing was bigger than the rest.

FULDA — The Okabena Legion baseball team had a lot of big swings in a doubleheader against Fulda on Friday, but one swing was bigger than the rest.

Kyle Elder hit a grand-slam home run to lead Okabena to a 17-2 win in Game 1 and the team remained hot in an 11-1 Game 2 victory.

Luke Henkels picked up the win in Game 1, pitching all five innings in a game that was reduced by the mercy rule. Henkels allowed two earned runs, four hits and struck out three.

Besides Elder’s big hit, Okabena received offense from Alex Meyer (3-for-3, four runs), Henkels (1-for-4, two runs), Alex Olsem (three walks, three runs), Jacob Post (hit, two RBI), Eric Jass (two runs, RBI) and Lukas DeWall and Austin Droll, who each recorded a hit.

Post (complete game, earned run, three walks, six strikeouts) took the win on the mound in Game 2.

The Okabena offense was led by Meyer (3-for-3, three RBI, two-run triple), Olsem (2-for-3, RBI), Post (1-for-3), Jass (1-for-1, RBI), Droll (hit, two RBI) and Jacob Olson (hit, two RBI).

Okabena (4-2) plays at Slayton today.
