WESTBROOK — What’s going to put the fun in Fun Days this year?
How about an expo event with 25 vendors, two days of bingo and a presentation about gangsters?
Those are just a few of the new activities scheduled in conjunction with Westbrook Fun Days, scheduled for this weekend.
The celebration will kick off Thursday evening with the community barbecue and Evening of Praise.
During the annual scholarship program on Friday, five candidates will vie for the title of Miss Westbrook and an assortment of younger girls for the opportunity to be Little Miss Westbrook. Theme for the pageant will be “Many Faces” according to Joan Jorgenson, one the members of the Westbrook Women’s Club that organizes the annual festival.
“On Saturday at the community center, we’re going to have a Fun Day Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said Jorgenson about some of the new additions to the schedule. “There are going to be 25 vendors there. And to raise money for the library, they’re having an ‘everything-is-$6’ sale done by this company out of Minneapolis that does a lot of fundraisers for hospitals.”
Bingo is a popular activity at many area festivals, and Westbrook plans two days of bingo calling, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday under the tent in the city park.
“Minnesota’s Gangster Past” will be presented by author Chad Lewis at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Westbrook Community Center. The program is free and open to all ages.
