LEGION BASEBALL: Worthington wins opener in Rochester

ROCHESTER — Stuart Rogers cranked a two-run home run in the fourth inning and the Worthington Legion baseball team cruised to a 10-3 victory against the Thunder Bay Slammers in the Firecracker 92 tournament Friday night.

ROCHESTER — Stuart Rogers cranked a two-run home run in the fourth inning and the Worthington Legion baseball team cruised to a 10-3 victory against the Thunder Bay Slammers in the Firecracker 92 tournament Friday night.

Jon Reller earned the victory on the hill. He allowed no runs on two hits while walking one and striking out seven in three and two-thirds innings.

Mitchell Jensen started on the hill. He allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out five in three and one-third innings.

The Slammers opened up a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but Rogers’ home run knotted the score at 2-all in the fourth.

Worthington went on to score four runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

Rogers finished with a pair of hits and three RBI in the game.

Adam Munkel was 3-for-4 to lead the Post 5 hitting attack, while Tommy Hayenga was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Jensen added a pair of hits, while Reller drove in two runs in the game.

Worthington (7-2) will face a team from Rochester and a Wisconsin team today as the tournament continues.
