RUSHMORE — Authorities released the name of the juvenile female killed in Wednesday’s crash in Rushmore, identifying the victim as 16-year-old Destiny Johnson.
Johnson, who would have been 17 years old next month, was to be a senior at Worthington High School this fall.
According to Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening, Johnson was a passenger in a rollover crash that occurred at 270th Street and Jones Avenue at approximately 4:47 p.m. Wednesday.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, but the driver of the vehicle and other passengers were transported to Worthington, Wilkening said. The extent of the driver’s injuries was unknown, but another passenger was treated for minor cuts and bruises. Names of the driver and passenger were not released.
“As far as we can tell, the driver lost control of the vehicle,” Wilkening said. “We aren’t sure why.”
The crash is still under investigation.
