JACKSON — Windom’s errors in the field proved costly in an amateur baseball playoff game against Fox Lake on Wednesday night.
The Pirates’ six errors paved the way for four unearned runs as the Foxes came out as the victors.
Tyler Knutson (1 2/3 innings pitched, four runs (two earned), four hits, two walks) got in early trouble for Windom on the mound as Fox Lake took an early 4-0 lead, but the Pirates clawed back to make the score 4-2 before the Foxes added a trio of late insurance runs.
Nick Kulseth (6 1/3 innings, three runs (one earned), four hits) was brilliant in relief for the Pirates.
Kulseth also added a hit and an RBI at the plate for Windom. Both Brett Mattson and Kirby Johnson were 2-for-5 in the game.
Joe Fitzgerald shut down the Pirates as Fox Lake’s starter (7 2/3 innings, no earned runs, five hits, five strikeouts, three walks, three hit batters) and also went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.
Windom finishes its season with a 7-15 record. The Foxes will play at Fairmont on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
