I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the heroic activities performed by Officer Jackie Dawson.
On the evening of Saturday, July 23, I was at a friend’s home with Officer Dawson present off-duty. We were laughing and having a good time when I took a bite of licorice. The licorice became lodged in my throat and I was unable to breathe. Officer Dawson grabbed me out of my chair and immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver. She had to perform this action several times before the licorice finally dislodged and I could again breathe freely.
I am very grateful for Officer Dawson’s quick response and actions that certainly saved my life! As I understand it, this is Officer Dawson’s second time within a matter of weeks in which she performed the Heimlich maneuver and saved someone’s life. The skills she possesses, along with her sincere compassion for others certainly make her a wonderful officer and first responder in my eyes.
