ST. PAUL PARK (AP) — A man who authorities say was on a mission to kill officers was shot and wounded after a nearly five-hour standoff in St. Paul Park.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the 22-year-old man is undergoing surgery at Regions Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton says the man made multiple threats to officers, and fired many rounds at police. He says it was a “very, very serious situation.”

The incident started about 1:30 a.m. with a call about a suicidal male walking on railroad tracks. The man then barricaded himself inside a home and fired at officers.

He was shot by Washington County's special response team around 6 a.m. Two women and another man were also in the home. One woman was arrested.
