Farmer Appreciation Days this weekend

LAKE PARK, Iowa — The community of Lake Park will salute its agricultural roots this weekend during the 27th annual Farmer Appreciation Days.

Events get under way today, with a 5 p.m. Golf Fun Night at Silver Lake Country Club and the grand opening of the new Savings Bank from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Other events on the schedule include:

Saturday

8 a.m. — Emersombiguns for the Cure 5k run/walk and one mile fun walk

8:30 to 10:30 a.m. — Heritage Square open house featuring a special display of war memorabilia

9 a.m. — bike and tricycle decorating contest and judging, Heritage Square

10 a.m. — free watermelon feed, Market Street

10:30 a.m. — flyover followed by parade

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Maidrites, chips and soft drinks served, water plant next to Lake Park City Park

Noon to 4:30 p.m. — inflatables, City Park

Noon — free kiddie train rides, City Park

12:30 p.m. — pie-eating contest, Stan’s Corner

1 p.m. — Lake Park Fire Department water fights, City Park

1 to 4 p.m. — concession stand and Kiwanis dunk tank, City Park

1 to 5 p.m. — free family swim day, Lake Park Pool

2 to 4 p.m. — free snow cones, City Park

2 p.m. — pedal tractor pull, City Park

3 p.m. — Lucky Duck Draw, Lake Park Pool

4 to 7 p.m. — barbecue contest and supper, City Park, across from pool

6 p.m. to 1 a.m. — beer garden open, Ave A West

9 p.m. to 1 a.m. — street dance featuring IV Play, Market Street and Ave A West

1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. — breakfast buffet, Cap’n Ken’s

Sunday

1 p.m. (registration at 12:30 p.m.) — third annual Farmers Appreciation tractor ride, City Park

5 p.m. — Firemen’s Cruise-In and supper, serving brats and burgers, also ice cream social and Town & Country Boosters raffle drawing, City Park
