AMATEUR BASEBALL: Fairmont wins Game 3, stays alive against Wilmont

FAIRMONT — Wilmont will have to wait another game to punch its ticket to the state tournament.

Leading the best-of-five series 2-0 entering Sunday’s regional amateur baseball game, the Fairmont Martins rallied for a 5-2 victory to extend the series at least one more game.

Adam Diekmann suffered the loss for Wilmont (23-8). He allowed three earned runs while striking out five in six innings.

Joe Ahrens threw two innings of relief and struck out three.

Jay Scheidt was 3-for-3, was hit twice and scored a run to lead Wilmont’s offensive attack.

Diekmann was 2-for-4, while Justin Saufley was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Nate Stoll had an RBI double, while Lucas Henning added a hit.

The Cardinals will host Game 4 at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
